Donation Dollars Stretch Farther with Match Madness on March 25! Smoky Hill Education Foundation has set a goal to raise $2,000 for the annual "Match Madness" fundraiser! The fundraiser through the Greater Salina Community Foundation is a wonderful opportunity for charitable giving to SHEF. That $2,000 will cover more than half of the cost of bringing storyteller Tim Lowry to area schools in cooperation with the annual Kansas Storytelling Festival, which has been moved to September for the health and safety of all involved by allowing time for distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
About Storyteller Tim Lowry: From kissing frogs to literary classics to American history, Tim Lowry tells stories drawing inspiration from Mark Twain, Appalachian folk tales, circus performances and more. His fourth grade teacher once wrote on his report card: “tends to excessive speech.” Today that has proven a profound understatement, as Lowry once calculated that he could talk continuously from his repertoire for more than a full day without repeating himself.

Registration is open now for the Scramble for Schools Charity Golf Tournament on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 (the day after Memorial Day), at the Salina Municipal Golf Course! Noted as being one of the largest tournaments hosted in Salina, we’d love for you to join us for a fun-filled day of golf, while helping to support education in more than 50 school districts across Kansas.
The tournament includes multiple hole-in-one contests with fantastic prizes (if you’re lucky!) and multiple contests offered throughout the day, such as closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt!
There are multiple ways you can support this year’s tournament! Hole sponsorship, donating a door prize, making a cash donation, and, of course, bringing a team are all ways you can assist and help our tournament be the best it can be!
We also want to recognize and thank a new tournament sponsor! Kansas City Audio-Visual (KCAV) will be our new beverage cart sponsor for this year's tournament!

Boost Graduation with Credit Recovery Through Smoky Hill Learning Center Keep students on schedule to graduate with their class - or even to get done early - with a Smoky Hill Learning Center credit recovery account. Save your district money and run your own on-site credit recovery program through Smoky Hill Learning Center’s Apex Learning account at only $100 per semester course. You can also send students directly to SHLC to recover failed or incomplete credits working virtually with our learning center teachers. We will need written approval from school officials, verification of the class or classes that a student needs to recover, and information on who is responsible for the cost – either the school or the student’s family. Featured Professional Development: Teambuilding in the Classroom What can islands teach us about teambuilding, responsibility, problem solving, determination, and goal setting? How can the TP (telephone pole) shuffle enhance cooperation, acceptance, tolerance, and interpersonal skills? Join us for an exploration into how adventure education merges intellectual, social, physical, and emotional learning, therefore enhancing student learning, responsibility, and interpersonal skills. Learn how adventure education can enhance any classroom content (not just physical education), build the Habits of the Mind in students, and discover how these disciplines can be implemented even if a ropes course isn’t available. Participants will participate in low and high ropes course elements, as well as on-the-ground games, initiatives, and challenges. Next session: March 25!
