Jaye Ditter started working with education service centers in 2000 and has worked at Smoky Hill ESC since 2005 as an Education Consultant. Working from the Hays location, Ditter provides PDC training, coordinates Teacher Safari, Safari Adventure and Expo programs and the Smoky Hill Education Foundation Golf Tournament each year. She is a 21st Century CCLC grant evaluator and a facilitator for the Smoky Hill ESC crisis intervention team and the Smoky Hill Adventure Program.

 

 

 

Melissa Fast

Melissa Fast currently serves as an Education Consultant with Smoky Hill Education Service Center. As a consultant she provides professional development to PreK-12 schools/districts/educators in the areas of mathematics, standards implementation, curriculum implementation, technology, and pedagogy. Prior to this role she was the Mathematics and MSP Consultant at the Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE). In her almost 20 year career in education she has served as an adjunct instructor at Neosho County Community College, classroom teacher of mathematics grades 6-12, and worked in higher education administration. Melissa has led and collaborated on a wide-range of curriculum development and professional development projects. In her position at KSDE she provided training to K-12 teachers throughout the state of Kansas in the area of mathematics, standards implementation, curriculum implementation, and pedagogy. Furthermore, she oversaw trainer of trainers sessions, KEEN conference and regional trainings, district requested trainings and promoted the online self-directed trainings.

Passionate educator, devoted father, lucky husband. I have been at Smoky Hill Education Service Center for about 18 months. Prior to joining SHESC I was a consultant at KSDE, a building principal, 7-12 Social Studies teacher, Athletic Director, and coach. I love having an opportunity to help administrators and teachers explore ways to help support their staff, students, and families. I believe every individual deserves peace and prosperity, and that's why I love what I do!

 

 

 

Pam Kraus

Pam has over 20 years of experience as a classroom science teacher, teaching chemistry and physical science at St. John’s Military School and Salina Central High School in Salina, Kansas. As the CTE Coordinator and STEM Consultant at Smoky Hill Education Service Center she provides CTE services and administers the Perkins grant for 44 districts and provides professional development for STEM teachers. Pam is also a space enthusiast and has participated in and presented at workshops at Johnson Space Center, US Space and Rocket Center, Cape Canaveral/Patrick AF Base and the Cosmosphere. Pam is passionate about sharing strategies to create motivation and interest to improve learning in STEM fields.

 

 

 

Noalee McDonald-Augustine

Noalee McDonald-Augustine is in her 22nd year as an Educational Consultant, specializing in School Culture, Social-Emotional Learning, Character Education, Bullying, Classroom Management, and Poverty. She was co-chair of the Kansas Social, Emotional, and Character Development (SECD) standards writing team and co-chair of the SECD revisions team. She also manages the Smoky Hill Low and High Ropes Adventure Program. Noalee has a BA in Mathematics, a BA in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, and her master’s work is in Physical Education with an emphasis in Adapted Populations.

 

 

 

Darla Smith

Darla’s educational career began at Winfield High School in Winfield, KS teaching social studies and language arts. At the time, the district was involved in developing standards-based instruction and integrating curriculum and instruction across content areas. Darla, and a fellow colleague, had the opportunity to develop a program for credit recovery that integrated science, social studies, language arts and math into a project-based approach. It was fun to see high school students make connections between what they were learning across all disciplines. Darla moved to the middle school level in Winfield, as they began to use block scheduling, brain-based learning, and integrated thematic instruction and then connect these practices to authentic problem/project-based learning to better address student learning needs. During her time in Winfield, Darla became a trainer for Slavin’s model of Cooperative Learning and worked with area schools and districts in the area. She also received training in peer coaching and was part of an initiative to pair teachers within the district to participate in collegial coaching as part of a targeted approach to professional development. Darla was also a K-12 instructional coordinator in the Derby School district and taught for a number of years for Wichita State University as part of their Curriculum and Instruction program and their Reading Specialist program. Darla at various times over the past several years has served on state standards writing committees in reading, writing, and social studies; and, as part of committees or groups working on school/system improvement at the state level. In her free time, Darla reads mysteries, quilts (which is a mystery), likes to refinish furniture, as well as go on outings to music festivals with her family. Darla continues to support teachers, schools, and districts as part of her work at Smoky Hill Educational Service Center, primarily in the areas of reading; school improvement; and curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
