We've all witnessed the power of video and sound to capture the imagination of children. And if we're honest, we can admit that these technologies capture our interest as well! What better way to tap into that fascination than to use the technologies we now have available to encourage our students to learn at higher levels?
From public service announcements to commercials, the production of short video clips can introduce students to - and encourage - creativity, organization, and writing skills. From there, move on to longer digital stories to reap the benefits of visual learning with your students.
"Digital storytelling takes the ancient art of oral storytelling and engages a palette of technical tools to weave personal tales using images, graphics, music and sound mixed together with the author's own story voice," said Author Bernajean Porter, "Digital storytelling is an emerging art form of personal, heartful expression that enables individuals and communities to reclaim their personal cultures while exploring their artistic creativity."
